The reality is that the funds sent by the Centre under various schemes are being eaten up by Mayawati’s elephant in Lucknow. Normally elephants eat leaves and grass but the magic elephant of Mayawati in Lucknow eats notes".

Rahul Gandhi: MNREGA funds ‘looted’ by BSP ministers

Launching a scathing attack against Mayawati government for loot of central funds, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said central funds meant for welfare of poor people were looted by Mayawati’s BSP ministers. Keeping in view acute unemployment in UP, Central government brought Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranteed Act (MNREGA) scheme for providing guaranteed jobs for the aam admi. Centre also released massive amount of Rs 60,000 crores as financial assistance under this scheme. But in Bundelkhand, no one knows about NREGA policy even. The crores of rupees sent by the Centre are being misused by the BSP Government. The money for the poor is pocketed by BSP leaders and the needy poor do not get anything, said Rahul Gandhi adding that MNREGA has been roaring success in Congress (I) ruled states where poor have got employment, income and leading a respectable life. However, in UP under Mayawati government poverty is compelling the youth to migrate to other places like Mumbai and Delhi for jobs, said Rahul Gandhi.

Police fired at the agitating farmers when they were fighting against the wrong land acquisition by the UP Government. Mayawatiji did not go there. I went there, listened to them and understood their problems. The Congress led Government at the centre did not stop at that. It drafted a new Land Acquisition Bill. But some parties have been trying to block it behind the closed doors of the Parliament”.

Referring the news paper reports regarding the misuse of Bundelkhand funds he said “I read it in today’s news paper that some minister purchased tractors with the funds sent by the Centre under Bundelkhand package. We had sent Rs. 3000 cr for the poor people of Bundelkhand. But that went to the minister’s pocket” alleged the Congress General Secretary.
