Congress continued its protest outside Parliament premises over the suspension of its 25 MPs from the Lok Sabha. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi led the protest as several top Congress leaders and various leaders from other oppositions parties also joined the protest. “We respect democracy. We respect the Speaker but do not agree with her decision” said Rahul Gandhi.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi undertook a ‘padyatra’ in Andhra Pradesh to highlight the issues faced by farmers and women Self-Help Groups. He kicked off his yatra from the village where Indira Gandhi had addressed a meeting in 1979. During the course of his yatra, he also held interactions in various villages of the district with farmers, MNREGA workers and with women SHGs. The Congress leader also met the family of farmer Harinath Reddy, who allegedly committed suicide.

He slammed the BJP govt in Rajasthan as well as the Narendra Modi-led govt at the Centre. “ I never understood the practical use of pagdi. After walking 10 km in Rajasthan, I have understood the importance of a pagdi.. I liked the movie Lagaan about the poor of India, and tax being taken from farmers, and how they unite.. In the end, the farmers win. In the movie, and in real life.” He said. “The farmers in our country, the people and the Congress party will make the 56inch chest to 5.6 inch, if they try to grab the lands of the poor” warned the Congress leader.
