Vajpayee’s flip-flops statements deflated ‘India shining’ balloon: Congress

BJP-led NDA turned out be a miserable failure. Utterances of BJP government as well as of its Prime Minister were neither coherent nor conducive in any manner. In January 1999, Vajpayee said, "The Constitution allows anyone to change his faith. It is legitimate." Later on his return from the Dangs in February 1999, he said, "There should be a national debate on conversions." Again while visiting USA in September 2000, Vajpayee said, “I am a Swayamsevak first.” But later the PMO denied he had said this. It was stated that Vajpayee had said that he was Swayamsevak of the country. In the NDA Manifesto, Vajpayee promised 10 million jobs to youth annually for the next ten years. However, on 30 December 2000, Vajpayee asked the youth of India not to look to the Government for jobs. This totally frustrated the people especially the youth of the country.
