Congress President Sonia Gandhi recently on a visit to Raebareli laid the foundation stone of Navodaya Vidyalaya Sports Complex. Addressing the gathering on the occasion she said, “UPA government is committed that no child should be deprived of education because of financial problems. The historical Right to Education Act is a step in that direction. For the successful implementation of the Act our government has allocated Rs 2.25 lakh crores and is cooperating with all the states of the country.” She emphasized that Uttar Pradesh also got Rs 60,000 crores for education, an increase of 75 per cent from the previous year. Congress President highlighted the education priorities of her government thus: “In the field of secondary education the UPA Government has taken many initiatives. A case in point is the approval of a model school in every block of the country. The central government will bear 75 per cent of the expenditure. In UP money has been sanctioned for 148 schools.”
