Mayawati favoring her own Jatav community, not dalits: Congress (I)

Blaming BSP’s Supremo Mayawati for playing caste politics, Congress (I) has said she is favoring only her own Jatav community in the name of dalits. While the plight of dalits and poor remains as it was before, Mayawati has help her Jatav community to which belong to prosper. As a result resentment is growing among dalits and poor who feel Mayawati has been cheating them, said Congress (I). Another disturbing trend the people are experiencing is that the number of cases being filed against upper castes and OBCs under the SC/ST Atrocities Act has swelled in the last five years. “As soon as a Dalit files an FIR,” explained a lawyer in Bareilly, “he gets Rs.25,000 from the government; if he wins the case, he gets another lakh. The accused, languishing in jail, usually tries hard to get the case withdrawn through a compromise, sweetened by more money.”

People of Uttar Pradesh having been taken for a ride for too long by both Mayawati’s BSP and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s SP, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said it is now time to bring in change in the state government. Recently while addressing a public meeting in Baduan (UP) Rahul Gandhi said, “You gave 22 years to others. Now give us just five years. Give Congress (I) a chance to form the government in the state and we will change Uttar Pradesh. Instead of going to other states to work, people will start coming from other states to work here.” Referring to past government he said, “You trusted Mulayam and got corruption and riots. You got angry and brought Mayawati with a full majority of 208 seats. Dalits thought that they would get help but look at what happened” added the Congress General Secretary. Rahul Gandhi urged the people to bring a Congress (I) government that talk of development and not caste or religion.
