Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi addressing the AICC session said that it was Congress which gave MNREGS to the nation. He reiterated that the Central Government shall continue do more and bigger works for the poor and weaker sections.
He further said that he is convinced that such substantive work to be implemented at such a mega scale can only be done by one organization – Congress Party. It was only Congress and none other which can bridge the gap between two Indias – poor and rich. This inherent strength makes Congress the only party in India which is a pan- India party belonging to all Indians, he said.
Shri Gandhi mentioned that other parties belonged to some particular community, some particular caste or some particular region. But this developmental work and programme undertaken by the central government cannot be implemented by a single community, caste or region. These are national programmes and can be stewarded only by Congress, he stated.
Expressing pride at being a Congress member, Shri Rahul Gandhi said that with each passing year, he witnesses further strengthening of Congress Party. He mentioned that critics had written off Congress in UP, Tamil Nadu, etc.
But it was a wrong notion, he said. Congress General Secretary pointed out that Congress Party awakens very easily whenever the need arises. To rekindle the Congress there was only one imperative according to Shri Rahul Gandhi – to interact with the poor and to work for them.
