Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who has been spearheading the Congress campaign in the poll bound Uttar Pradesh said that the state of U.P wasted its 22 years by allowing the non-Congress parties to rule the state. He said that the state has slipped backward and no development took place during this period.
Stepping up his attack on Mayawati for consistently adopting anti-people and anti-poor policy, Congress (I) General Secretary has said she is harming the poor by opposing Food Security Bill. Taking a pot shoot at her he said she claims to be working for the interests of the poor but wants to deny them even the basic necessity of life – food - at the subsidized cost.
Rahul Gandhi also said, “Just like the MNREGA, she has rejected the food Bill without giving it a proper thought. But the Bill is meant to ensure that no one remains hungry as every family will get 35 kg of food grains.” Not sparing the BJP for playing with the religions sentiments of the people he said their ‘India Shining’ slogan was rejected in 2004 and now they have nothing new to offer to the people. Pointing out that the parties like BSP, SP and BJP have repeatedly failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people, Rahul Gandhi exhorted the people to vote this time for Congress (I) and promised it would change the face of the state and they would see the change in five years which other parties failed to bring in twenty two years.
