Flaying the non-congress parties like BSP, SP and BJP for betraying the people by not fulfilling their promises, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said UP is now most backward because of these parties. “They failed to provide good governance and development to the people. Instead each of them looted the public money and left the state worst than before,” said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting in Mirzapur on February 9 for the ongoing Assembly elections 2012. These parties made false promises to the people to grab their vote but did nothing afterwards to fulfill them, he added. Stressing that Congress (I) does not make promises which it can not fulfill, Rahul Gandhi said Congress (I) brought Rs 60,000 crores MNREGA scheme to provide guaranteed employment to the poor. It has benefited the millions in Congress (I) ruled states but Mayawati looted the money for this scheme leaving nothing for the poor. “We brought Rs 6,234 crore “Weavers’ package” to save them from economic distress. We brought Loan Waver scheme to help the farmers,” he said. Pointing out to the people that the work which Congress (I) has done speak for its resolve to develop UP, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to “give us five years and see what chance we can bring in the state.”
