Launching a blistering attack on Mayawati for going back on her promise during 2007 Assembly elections that she would provide a clean administration, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi accused her of encouraging corruption during her regime. All non-congress governments have encouraged corruption in one form or the other during the last two decades, said Rahul Gandhi while speaking a big Congress rally in Uttar Pradesh. But Mayawati’s BSP government has turned out to be worst, said Rahul Gandhi further adding that she turned the government into a trading company where deals were fixed by middlemen with her ministers on behalf of contractors and corporate houses. “The government contracts are being sold for a negotiated price. While corrupt ministers, legislators and middlemen are making money, the poor are being compelled to pay bribe for getting anything done”, said the Congress General Secretary.
Rahul Gandhi continued, “You gave twenty two years to these non-Congress parties but what you got back was corruption and non-development.” “Now give Congress five years and we will change the face of the state. You will see in five years what we can do,” Rahul Gandhi said. The Congress MP from Amethi also assured that that Congress (I) would provide corruption-free, transparent and responsive government in UP.
