Rahul Gandhi: Non-Congress parties betrayed Bunkars, ignored Bundelkhand

While addressing a mammoth Congress rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut city, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that all the non-Congress parties ignored the issues of the poor people in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress leader said that Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre made a lot of schemes and policies for the poor and sent huge amounts to the states under those schemes. Rahul Gandhi claimed that Congress makes policies after talking to the people directly.

“What did we (Congress) do? We went to the people asked about their difficulties. They told us that there are no sufficient jobs available in the villages and the poor people are forced to migrate to big cities for jobs. So the first thing we did was to implement MNREGA to guarantee jobs for all” informed Rahul Gandhi. “By this employment guarantee policy every poor is assured of 100 days of work at a daily wages of Rs 120 thus amounting to Rs 12,000 a year,” informed Rahul Gandhi.

“Then we met with the farmers and asked about their problems. They told us that the doors of the banks are closed for them and many of them carry the burden of debts. The Congress led Central government took necessary steps to open the doors of the banks for the farmers and also implemented a policy to waive off loan of the poor farmers worth Rs. 60000 crore” informed Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress General Secretary then referred the Bundelkhand relief package sanctioned by the Congress led Central Government and said “When drought-hit Bundelkhand was crying for help neither Mayawati Ji nor Mulayam Ji went there. BJP too ignored them”. “I had personally requested the Chief Minister to kindly go there. But she refused,” complained Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi continued, “Bunkars in U.P had approached me. They pleaded for assistance as they face a lot of difficulties. They informed that both SP and BSP ignored them. They also shared that they are not able to secure loan from anywhere”. “We their delegation to the Prime Minister and he agreed to sanction a relief package for the Bunkars. The Congress led centeral government also introduced a Bunkar credit card and facilitated loan facility upto two lac rupees,” said the Congress leader.
