Youth Congress under Rahul Gandhi wants UPA to act more aggressively on setting up of Lokpal

The Youth Congress led by Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has underlined the need to tackle the corruption on a priority basis and wanted the Congress led UPA Government to act more aggressively on setting up of Lokpal.

The Youth Congress also sought sweeping changes in the laws related to corruption cases to ensure punishment to corrupt public servants. The political resolution passed at the recently held three-day national executive meet of Youth Congress in Karnataka also asked for the setting up of special courts to try only corruption-specific cases.

The resolution wanted more stringent penal provisions to punish the corrupt public servants by amending the Prevention of Corruption Act. The youth wing of the Congress also demanded that the “code of criminal procedure (CrPC) should be amended in order to ensure speedy disposal of corruption-related cases. “The Central government should move more aggressively on Constitutionally guaranteed Lokpal bill”, the resolution added.

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had last year had demanded for in the Lok Sabha for constitutional status to Lokpal. Rahul Gandhi, who is AICC general in charge of Youth Congress said that people at the last point need to empowered to fight corruption.

Addressing the IYC workers during the meet, Rahul Gandhi said that the problem is not with our laws but with the implementation of our laws. The Congress leader felt that decentralisation will go a long way to solve corruption.

Rahul Gandhi also held that corruption is talked about more these days because people’s awareness has increased and more information is available because of RTI, which was brought by the Congress-led UPA government. Rahul Gandhi also commented that the legislation has empowered the common man.

Rahul Gandhi observed during the meet that the “common man’s voice needs to be heard in policy making”. The Youth Congress this time had invited senior Congress leaders to address the national executive meet and interact with young leaders.
