Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday kick-started her party’s election campaign in Gujarat with a big farmers rally in Rajkot. This was the first time that Sonia Gandhi addressed a public gathering after the recent economic reform measures taken by the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. Defending the Centre’s policies the Congress President assured that FDI in retail would help farmers. "I want to ask, should farmers not get the money for their products? People should get their security needs at a fair and affordable price? That is the concept behind FDI", said Sonia Gandhi. She also informed that the states have the right to reject FDI policy. "Then why all this hungama?" she asked. She also justified the recent fuel price hike.
