Rahul Gandhi appointed as Congress vice President

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has been appointed as the vice President of the party. The decision came today after the meeting of the Congress Working Committee held in Jaipur on Saturday evening. During the ongoing Chintan Shivir of the party many Congress leaders, Youth Congress and NSUI leaders demanded a bigger role for Rahul Gandhi. Several Union Ministers and senior Congress leaders also batted for larger responsibility for Rahul Gandhi as the party recognised the need to respond to the demands of new changing India peopled by a more young generation. There is a feeling among many Congress leaders that attending the Shivir that more youths should be empowered. There are also demands within the party that Rahul Gandhi should be declared Congress' PM candidate before the party goes to next Lok Sabha polls. As the Congress party debated its future course of action and its strategy to come to power in 2014 General Elections and reviving the party's fortunes in states, the leaders also understand the serious challenges ahead and many feel that Rahul Gandhi can give an effective leadership at this challenging political situation. Rahul Gandhi is such a leader who always loved to be among the masses and his unscheduled frequent visits to the villages has, on many occasions, evoked public debate. "I go to the people to realize their issues and I believe the power and strength of the people in the villages" had said Rahul Gandhi on several occasions. Congress President Sonia Gandhi had, in her opening address, urged the partymen to connect with the new generation of the emerging India and it is an undisputed fact that Rahul Gandhi has a special ability to connect with masses, very easily. And at a time, when the ruling party is passing through a tough phase, a young leader like Rahul Gandhi can definitely boost party's prospects to regain its political domination and retain power at the centre.
