Congress (I) has said Mayawati has proved to be scourge for poor girls and women in the state of Uttar Pradesh. There has been a spate of crime against women belonging to dalit, OBCs and minority community. Congress (I) has highlighted that while Mayawati herself is a women, she has not cared to protect women and girls of her own community. As one Congress (I) leader in Lucknow said, “Mayawati does not feel embarrassed by such atrocities against her own community women. What she is interested in is to rule the state in the name of dalit, amass illegal wealth for herself. Welfare and justice of dalit is not her concern.” That is why sexual crimes against ‘dalit’ women remain unabated. In a yet another case recently a 16-year-old Pooja's body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house. In her suicide note, the Class XII student said she had been dishonored and requested that a post-mortem should not be conducted.
