The Congress has come out quite strongly against the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh over Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh's scathing letter. The much talked about letter has alleged rampant corruption in the implementation of MGNREGA in UP.
Lots of reports have been coming over the misuse of funds centre provided for various social welfare schemes. While the BSP chief Mayawati lodged a complaint with the PM on the matter, Ramesh described his letter as "nonpolitical".
"There is no politics involved. My letter is based on reports of national level monitors (NLMs) and state quality monitor (SQM) into the working of MGNREGA. They have found deliberate misuse of funds," said Ramesh.
In the times of turbulence for the ruling UP government the letter of the union Minister has come as another factor exposing the face of the ‘Elephant’. The state government has got to accept the truth and make amends for the mistakes committed.
