Mayawati’s corrupt government stealing people’s money: Congress (I)

Congress (I) has hit out at Mayawati’s BSP government for stealing people’s money which central government has been sending for implementation of pro-people schemes in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati government claims to be working for dalits and poorest of the poor yet the benefits of central schemes have not reached those needy people whose plight remains as it was before. To cushion the impact of unemployment central government sent Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Scheme for providing minimum 100 days guaranteed employment to poor people in rural areas. Scheme is entirely financed by Centre. Fixed wages at the rate of Rs 120/- from government instead of contractor and that too near the place of one’s residence would have provided much needed relief to the rural poor, said Rahul Gandhi. But instead of spending central funds on the rural people for whom they were meant, the money disappeared into the pockets of corrupt officials.
