Congress has hit hard against Mayawati government for siphoning off funds which Center has been sending for development schemes in Uttar Pradesh. Bundelkhand region has been ridden with drought, hunger and unemployment for several years. A special package of Rs 8,000 crores was sanctioned by Congress (I)-led central government for integrated development of the region. But Mayawati did not take interest in implementing development schemes in the region. As a result only 8 to 9% of the funds were utilized by Mayawati government, said Congress (I). There is no dearth of funds with central government for development schemes. But the problem is that the money is not reaching the poor people for whose development it is meant, said Congress (I). Corrupt officials in connivance with ministers and legislators of Mayawati government have siphoned off the money. The only way to end this vicious circle is to vote out the corrupt Mayawati government in coming elections, said Congress (I).
