Latest news - Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi meets the girl victim of increasing lawlessness in U.P

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday today met a 14-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh, undergoing treatment at the AIIMS in New Delhi after being stabbed in both the eyes allegedly by two youths when she resisted a rape attempt. He inquired about her condition from doctors.
The victim is a Dalit girl just 14 years old. She is a resident of Gursahaiganj village in Kannauj district, about 180 km from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
The two boys, both high school students, stalked her near a field on June 19. They attempted to rape her. When she resisted the desperados attacked her with knives and blinded her by piercing both of her eyes. Her cries brought the villagers to the scene and she was taken to hospital.
The doctors at the district hospital declared that she might never get her eyesight back. As a result she was shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi for specialist treatment.
Rahul Gandhi reached the Rajendra Prasad Eye Centre at the AIIMS at 10.45 am and spoke to the girl and her parents for some time. He motivated the girl and wished her early recovery.
Rahul Gandhi also spoke to the doctors about the treatment being given to the minor girl.
The doctor who operated the girl informed Rahul Gandhi that the girl’s left eye was completely damaged. The inner parts of the eye are severely damaged. The cornea is badly damaged, may not come back to its normal condition. However, the doctors said 80 to 90 percent recovery was possible in the other eye for which she was operated upon.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to see the victim girl comes in the wake of unprecedented increase of rape, murder and law and order cases being daily taking place all over Uttar Pradesh. The law and order does not exist in the BSP ruled Uttar Pradesh any more.
