Accusing UP Chief Minister for rampant corruption as a result of which money for central sponsored welfare programs reached into the pockets of ministers, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said caste-based political parties are hindering growth and development of Uttar Pradesh. Referring to various welfare schemes sponsored by Congress (I)-led UPA government at the Centre like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Janani Sauraksha Yojana (JSY) (Safe Motherhood Delivery), he said, funds granted under welfare schemes and development works are consumed by corrupt ministers of Mayawati. “The Centre provides massive funds for development and welfare schemes, but if parties like SP and BSP continue to hold sway, the money would be gobbled up by the elephant (poll symbol of BSP) and the cycle (poll symbol of SP) would ride over it,” said Rahul Gandhi to which the crowd responded with a thundering applause.
