Back from his recent public contact program in districts of central UP where he campaigned from December 13 to 17, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has forecast an upswing in the party support in the coming Assembly elections due early 2012. Rahul Gandhi emphasized that although the party is out of power in Uttar Pradesh for over 20 years but it still has over 10 per cent votes. “People are coming to us when we started touring the state. If we take little efforts picture can change adding that Mayawati, Mulayam Singh think about today — the present — but the Congress has a vision of development.” Referring to his recent tour experience Rahul Gandhi said, “Opposition parties are finding it difficult to oppose our welfare programmes like food security, RTI, MNREGA,” and added that Congress (I) has an appeal across the country which no party has.
