Rahul Gandhi slams Mayawati’s anti-poor attitude
Alleging that BSP chief Mayawati was responsible for the present plight of the poor in Uttar Pradesh, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had said that she has been following anti-poor policies. “Did she ever come to you in the last five years to know your problems,” Rahul Gandhi had asked the people while addressing a big Congress rally during his recent campaign for the UP Assembly elections. After becoming chief minister she forgot the poor, said the Congress leader. “In her cozy bungalow she thinks everything is alright outside. Being a clever politician she has been throwing out occasional cash money to the poor to keep them on short leash” argued Rahul Gandhi. “She has not worked out much less launched capacity building programs for them to enable them to stand on their feet. She wants to keep her flock together for her own vote bank politics rather than think about empowering them” added the Congress MP. “Obviously being apprehensive that self-sustaining and educated dalits will fly off to other destinations, she cannot do more for them than they can do for her” continued the Congress leader. Arguing that Mayawati is more interested in the vote of the poor rather than their welfare, Rahul Gandhi requested the people to vote for Congress (I) in their own interest. The Congress General Secretary had assured the people that Congress (I) would work for their welfare and ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes reach them without fail.
